Vlog Ep. 19: The Legendary Deck Building Games

The 19th episode of the #BaduyPride live stream vlog is another tabletop game episode, this time about one of our favorite deck building game lines. It's not easy to talk about all of the Upper Deck Legendary games as the franchise includes a LOT of cards for Marvel Comics and expansions for other franchise including Aliens, Firefly, The X-Files, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and most recently James Bond.

We still can't figure out what's wrong with our Facebook chats integrating with Restream, but hopefully, we'll get that fixed. We get a LOT of comments on Facebook and I miss being able to flash those on screen. In the meantime, we appreciate everyone who takes the time to watch us at 09:00pm!

Vlog Ep. 18: Dune Movie Adaptations

For the 18th episode of the #BaduyPride live stream vlog, Tobie and I ended up talking about the various efforts to adapt Dune from book to movie or TV series. With the trailer for the new movie set to come out on 9 September, it felt like as good a time as any to talk about all that has been done before.

As much as I love Dune as a novel series, I've had a mixed experience with the different multimedia efforts to re-tell this story in a more visual manner. There may be some point in how dune is often called "unfilmable" because of the scope of the story and the many different characters involved in the telling, but who knows, maybe this 2020 movie effort will be the one that cracks the formula get makes things right. Or maybe it will fall into the same traps of the previous releases.

Vlog Ep. 17: Getting Into Tabletop RPGs

While there's no topping the craziness of yesterday's amazing episode, we still pushed through with another one for this Saturday night. So for tonight, we opted to talk about how new players can get into tabletop RPGs in our 17th episode of the #BaduyPride live stream vlog.

In this episode, we got to celebrate some of our favorite game systems and share why they work so well for new players. The TRPG world is amazingly diverse with so many different games that support all sorts of story genres and play styles. And we hope this video helps more people get started.

Vlog Ep. 16: Rocky's Favorites

THIS WAS AMAZING! Thanks to everyone who joined this special birthday #BaduyPride episode. It was a lot of fun trying to answer everyone's questions and just having so many friends hanging out with us. It has been hard to really feel connected with friends and family during this now 160+ day lockdown in Metro Manila and everyone's participation in this episode was just amazing.

So instead of just a 1-hour episode, we ended up going for 90 minutes, which means we were talking for like the duration of movie. And as much as we enjoyed the experience, I hope that everyone who joined us also had a good time in the virtual space of this Baduy Pride, because that's what it's all about. We'll get through this quarantine together.

Celebrating How Ever Way We Can

This year has been a difficult one for us in many ways.  The ongoing pandemic and the debatable response has not made it easy to see the joy usually present in our lives. Finding opportunities to visit family, to reconnect with friends, and to celebrate life has been rough. And more so when you want to make your loved one feel extra special since it is their birthday.

I will confess that I probably would not have been able to make the day feel as special as it was had it not been for the awesome group of friends we have gained in the passing years. Rocky and I have been blessed with a wonderful mix of personalities whom we can happily call our friends.  Friends from geek circles. Friends from our gay life. Friends currently based so far away. But with the lock downs and the quarantines, it is not hard to feel like everyone is so far away.

I had hopes of arranging a more exciting celebration for Rocky. I wanted to get him bottles of his favorite wine. I wanted to have a special show set up for him at our favorite haunt, O bar.  I had hoped to get friends join us and celebrate another year of being himself.

But yeah, the pandemic.
The wine order is still indefinitely on hold, as the suppliers are currently silent on the matter.
The bar is closed as restaurants and bars have limitations in their operations.
Having friends over would prove to be an irresponsible thing.

I shot out messages to various mutual friends, asking them to have some time to join us for an online hangout. And after holding a super cool episode of Baduy Pride where we talked about Rocky's favorites (my suggestion to call it Rocky-ology was shot down), we then had a chat-til-you-drop session with awesome friends.

This image was one of the few captures we were able to take. It was truly heart-warming and lovely reconnecting with so many friends.  And it just made us remember all the more how much our hearts yearn to spend time with our friends and loved ones.

But thankfully, it made the day special for Rocky.

I'm so proud of him. From his focus on maintaining his Keto lifestyle, his determination in staying fit and completing his daily workout routines, and his devotion to writing.  I am proud to have this geek in my world and I would not trust anyone else with my heart, my secrets, and the rest of my life.

Happy birthday, Rocky!
Here's hoping we can celebrate things better post lockdown.
